Sandro Botticelli ( 1445-1510 ) : Master of the Italian Renaissance depicting Virgin Mary significantly different from any earlier representation of the same subject.
This antique painting tended to represent "Madonna of the Magnificat" as depicted by Sandro Botticelli and has been accomplished most likely by some of his followers in his workshop.
It is believed the painting was originally intended for an altar piece, for that reason it would have been displayed facing slightly to the right and looking down.
This painting has been restored through the centuries and lately partially relined and retouched. (see pictures)
